Guideline of Installing, Uninstalling, Storage And Safety Measures For LPG Forklift Cylinder

Forklifts are essentially used to budge material in the service and manufacturing industries. Presently the technology of forklift has evolved to offer customers a significant choice with LPG variant. Industries are now into majorly adapting the use of LPG forklifts as they are cost effective and takes minimal time to refuel.

Working with LPG forklift most of the time is trouble-free and riskless. But in spite of several significant designs, the stated safety cannot be taken for granted. Nor should it be forgotten that it can take the small errors to cause huge difficulties in future.

Forklift LPG Cylinder Installation Process

  • Start installing forklift LPG cylinder wearing the safety gears which are mandatory.
  • Ensure there is no ignition or smoking source in the area you’re working.
  • Make sure the main valve on the LPG bottle is completely OFF. Don’t forget to check the O-rings in the connectors. Be sure to confirm that they are in an up-to-date condition.
  • Advisable to use risk-free lifting procedures. Install the LPG bottle in the focal area in to the brackets. Make sure the pressure release valve is positioned accurately.
  • When the valve is correctly positioned, tighten the gas bottle securing it with the brackets. Ensure the bracket straps are secure and sturdy.
  • Now connect the gas line to the LPG gas bottle firmly.
  • Turn On the main valve and spray the area around the valve and gas line with a soapy water solution to identify any possible leaks.
  • If you observe any smell of gas or bubbling effects, turn Off the valve immediately and recheck the connection and O-ring.

Uninstalling Process of Forklift LPG Cylinder

  • Ensure to wear your PPE. LPG cylinder removal process is a bit tricky one so it’s essential to wear the eye protection, long sleeves clothes and long rubberised gloves.
  • Ensure there is no ignition or smoking source in the area.
  • Turn off the valve of the empty LPG cylinder.
  • Be cautious while disconnecting the gas line of the forklift. Be aware of a little quantity of LPG might release from the gas line when disconnecting it from the forklift.
  • Free the brackets holding the gas cylinder sturdy on its position.
  • Remove the LPG bottle off the forklift.
  • Take the LPG cylinder aside and store it in a designated safe storage area.

How To Store LPG Cylinders Safely?

General safety tips to know while storing LPG cylinders in the storage are:

  • Store only stipulated a number of cylinders specified on the cylinder storage.
  • Ensure all valves of unused cylinders are totally turned off, despite the fact that they are empty.
  • Always store the cylinders vertically when storing or transporting, so that you can avoid an uncertain situation from happening.
  • It’s important to store the LPG cylinders in a well-ventilated and cool place. Make sure it does not block the entrance, passageways, and exits. Never think of storing the cylinders in a curbed location where small leaks could turn up into harmful concentrations.

LPG cylinders for forklifts come in varied sizes. Most preferably 20 and 33 pounds fill sizes. When you select the cylinder storage, make sure you know the diameters of the LPG bottles, so you can appropriately identify the storage option.

  • Make sure to wear essential PPE before dealing with the LPG cylinder. Wear long protective gloves, accurate work clothes, and protective eye glasses for better safety.
  • Be gentle while working with LPG cylinders. Don’t drop, dent, or damage them.
  • Avoid using an automotive LPG cylinder as it is extreme fire hazardous which is not considered for the purpose of particular connections.
  • Avoid the contact of metal tools when working with LPG cylinders.
  • Ensure the installing process of LPG cylinder in forklift is accurately performed. If carelessly installed, it might end up providing serious hazards.
